Religious MuralThe religious mural in our Chapel measures 21x16 feet and is on the south wall. Soft pastels, in addition to white bright colors, make it a vivid portrayal of the events in the life of Christ, especially the Christ Child's Birth, His death on Calvary and His Ascension, as well as other scenes. The mural was painted in 1957 by our own talented artist, Alean Galigher, who returned to Zanesville to work in her studio on Riverside Drive. Miss Galigher studied at the National Academy of Arts in Chicago. After interesting assignments in important Chicago homes such as William Wrigley's, Philip Wrigley's, the Cudahy and John Borden homes, Miss Galigher went to Cleveland where she had her studio in Playhouse Square. Her talent has taken her to Cincinnati, Lorain and other cities to paint large murals. In 1955, whe executed the two murals on the west wall of Zanesville's Federal Savings and Loan Bank. The religious mural in our chapel, done in oil-base paints, was painted in memory of her father, John U. Galigher, who died in 1953. This was a gift of approximately $10,000 and took Miss Galigher seven weeks to complete. ![]() Artist Alean Galigher and her mural |
