1999Due to bad weather our church attendance on January 2nd was only 219.We received $10,000 from our sainted member, Pauline Dahl. Dr. Wilbur Stiers, our oldest member, was present at the late service on the 24th of January to celebrate his 100th birthday. Pastor Lingsch left for three weeks of military chaplaincy school in Montgomery, Alabama. We received $10,000 from the estate of our sainted member, Betty Jane Todd. The Men's Bible Class/Breakfast was initiated. Pastor Lingsch had Memorial Day services at Woodlawn and Greenwood Cemeteries. We sponsored a food booth at the Gus Macker Basketball Tournament, with the profit of $1268. The Voter's Assembly resolved to purchase the house at 1185 Pfeifer Drive for $65,000. A School Committee was appointed. Ten high school youth and adult leaders from Faith Lutheran Church, Columbus, Indiana, stayed overnight at the church on their way home from an innercity project in Baltimore. We prayed for rain during Intercessions on August 1st. Trustees awarded a contract of $235,000 for our new slate roof to Mid-Sate Contracting Company, Marion, Ohio. The $14,000 Carillon Fund was completed. There was a door offering for the earthquake victims of Turkey which totaled $1213. Our donated home at 1333 Playford Avenue was sold at an auction for $29,000. Mission Festival Sunday was held with Pastor Paul Sajban, former missionary to Kazakstahn, as our speaker. The Voter's Assembly resolved to purchase Synod's new Hymnal Supplement. A Hymnal Fund was initiated. A new church directory -- with names, addresses, and phone numbers -- arrived. The cost was paid for by advertisers. The steeple was removed in November due to rotting wood underneath the slate that was removed. 2000In January a sunday school class for 2 year olds and their parents was started. It was taught by Rachel Sabanosh.The Voter's Assembly gave a $1000 gift certificate to Pastor Kudart in honor of his 30th year as pastor of our church. We received $48,880.68 from our sainted member Ellen Seaton. Pastor Kudart made a trip to India in February. In March, Helen Porter was honored for 30 years of service. Our new steeple and all slate work was completed on our roof in April In May Don McElroy retired as our Church Park custodian and Bill Bowman assumed that position. We resumed our radio program "Moments With God" on Sunday mornings at 8:30am on WHIZ AM and FM for $80 per week. In August, Pastor Lingsch left for three weeks of duty with the Air National Guard in Saudi Arabia. |
