1984The parsonage formerly occupied by Mrs. Pohl became the vicarage in January. To facilitate this move by the vicar, it was approved to pay him $700 per month with the church paying for the housing and utilities. (except long distance phone bills) with a car allowance also to be provided. later in the year the vicarage was furnished with a washer and dryer, insulated, and a lawn mower was provided. The Freda Schoeller estate gave $17,000 to the church. This was used later in the year to build and install a handicap entry to the parish hall, replace the front steps and sidewalk on 7th and Harvey streets, replace lights in the Sunday School rooms, painted some exterior trim, and deposited the remainder in the Ohio District Church Extension Fund. Robert Graham accepted the position of Sunday School Treasurer.In July he replaced Robert Grissett as Sunday School Superintendent. The Ruth Guild purchased new drapes for the parish hall. The wood in the parish hall was cleaned and refinished at the cost of $1,500. Ned Weaver was hired to replace the previous custodian who was replaced for unsatisfactory work. Pastor Kudart celebrated his 20th year in the ministry. We said goodbye to Vicar Wesemann and welcomed Vicar John Fleischmann. 1985In January, 50 cushioned chairs were purchased for the chapel. Due to a change in broadcasting time and a lack of audience, we discontinued the Moments with God program broadcast over radion station WHIZ. The Pfeifer Dr. vicarage was insulated on three sides due to high heating bills. A tape recorder, compatible with our mircophone system, was purchased to record services for our shut-ins. Pauline Butler resigned as assistant organist after 15 years. Alean Dudley was appointed to take her place. Dr. W.W. Renner resigned as choir director. Dr. William Schlacks, from Muskingum College, was selected as our new choir director. Vicar Fleischmann left and Vicar Michael Hill arrived. The 40 year old lights on the steeple (originally placed as a memorial for those that lost their lives in World War 2) were replaced at $210 each. These were again placed as a memorial. 1986The Voters Assembly approved the congregation's request to fully furnish the vicarage instead of paying the vicar's moving expenses. St. Nicholas Catholic Church used our church for weddings and funerals while their church was being renovated. A bell timer was installed as a memorial for Oscar Wells. He rank our Saturday evening bells for many years. A policy manual was developed to guide elected officials in the performance of all church functions. An Air conditioning unit was donated to the church by Bolin Funeral Home. It was used to cool the parish hall. Hittle Roofing Systems reroofed the parish hall and repaired slate on the churhc roof for a cost of $25,000. A new pictorial directory was made with local photographer Bill Goff. Church council requested a parking variance from the City of Zanesville concerning parking on 7th street on Sunday mornings. A handicap parking zone was also established in the parking lot near the entrance. The pipe organ was repaired at a cost of $2,300. This was the second time a pipe was missing. Insurance inspections indicated that we needed to update our lighting and fire extinguisher stations. On August 8, 1986, the wedding of Pastor Kudart and Sandy Sarbaugh took place before 600 friends and church members. Ohio district President Rev. Paul Weber officiated. We said goodbye to Vicar Hill and said hello to Vicar Jerry Koch. The amount of money the trustees can spend without Voters Asembly approval was raised from $500 to $1000. |
