1970Pastor Larry Kudart was installed and a reception was held for his family.The installation was conducted by Rev. W.O. Neisch of Parkersburg, W.Va., counselor for Circuit 5. Rev. Eugene Jobst of Columbus, Ohio, was the liturgist. Rev. Eugene Kappeler delivered the sermon. A get-aquainted dinner for the Kudarts was held with Larry Crist as the toastmaster. Remarks were given by Dr. W.W. Renner, president of the congregation and the Fellwoship Club provided dinner. "Married Couples Club" changed its name to "Fellowship club." A new constitution was adopted, lowering the voting age for both male and female members. New red hymnals were purchased. A parsonage was purchased at 507 Imlay Dr. for $24,500. The first monthly newsletter was published with Mrs. John (Dottie) Schultheis, editor. In a contest to name the new publication, Wilma Good submitted "Trinity Newsline," which won and became the name of the newsletter. The first quarterly evening Communion service was held with 40 present. Individual Communion cups, as well as the common cup, were used at these services. This was the first time individual cups were used. Approval was given to hold an 8:00am service each Sunday on a trial basis. Karl D. Schmid submitted his resignation as church treasurer, choir director, and Bible class teacher for health reasons. Helen Porter became head organist and Pauline Butler was organist for the 8:00am service. Dr. W.W. Renner accepted the responsibility of choir director. Reapair work was completed for our 117 ft. steeple and cross on top. This is the highest steeple in Muskingum County. Paul Hodley was the workman. Vicar Terry Reynolds arrived from Concordia Seminary, Springfield, Illinois. Lloyd Barnes gave the layman's address, "The Why and What Is Laity Sunday? Why Me?" Thirty-four women applied for voting membership. In 1970 the Synod resolved to allow women the right to vote in congregational meetings. Confirmation classes for the fourth grade through the seventh grade began in 1970. These classes were held on Tuesday evenings, throughout the school year, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. The Sunday before Palm Sunday, the seventh grade students are questioned on their faith and doctine before the congregation. On Palm Sunday the class members are Confirmed and on Maunday Thursday they receive their First Communion. This practice was initiated in 1970 and continues to date. 1971It was agreed to purchase the Saad property for $10,000. A special fund was started.On Laity Sunday, Walter Roebuck spoke on, "Do Not Disturb." Vicar Reynolds returned to Concordia Seminary, Springfield, Illinois, and Allen Schenk was assigned to Trinity. A German service was held in December. Rev. Ferdinand Bellin of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Parkersburg, W. Va., former pastor in Germany, preached. Following the service he spoke using slides on the condition of the Evangelical Church in East Germany. A twenty-five foot live Christmas tree was a gift of Walter Rittberger. The perpetually burning light, the Sanctuary Lamp, was a memorial gift in memory of Mr. & Mrs. Eugene C. Greiner, Sr. This light uses a seven day candle and wa a gift of the Greiner children, Eugene (Bud) Greiner Jr., Wayne Greiner, Louise Greiner, Ruth Frick, Dorothy Jenkins, and Helen Porter. Pictures of our families were taken for a Pictorial Directory. The first meeting of the 125th Anniversary Synod's Thankoffering Committee was held with Lloyd Barnes, chariman. In April, the Voters Assembly resolved to have two worship services on a permanent basis, at 8:00am and 10:15am. Pastor Kudart and the Congregation received a letter of congratulations for our contribution to the work of the church-at-large in the Ohio District. Trinity was on of 47 out of 158 congregations to exceed the pledged amount. |
