1968A chancel railing was installed by G.C. Friesinger & Son.In April, the Lima Pipe Organ Company removed the old organ. Our electronic organ was used until the new organ was installed. The new organ was used for the first time on July 21st. The organ fund drive was completed September 8, 1968, with $25,010 collected. Gary Appleman worked with the organ builder on the electrical part of the organ. Florence Pohl and Louise Greiner made and gave, at their own expense, 28 fruit compotes to all who contributed $100 or more to the organ fund. Teh new organ was dedicated in Spetember with a service honoring the 50th Anniversary of our organist, Carl F. Schmid. A dedication brochure was prepared giving the history of the two previous organs in Trinity and specifications of our new organ. The Organ Committee was: Chairman Dr. W.W. Renner, organist Carl F. Schmid, choir master Karl D. Schmid, Pauline Butler, Helen Porter, Jeff Jacob (our own gifted organist), and organist Vernon Renner of Zion Lutheran Church of Columbus, Ohio. For the 45th Anniverary of the Pastor in the office of the Holy Ministry, the congregation presented him with a colored televsioon set. Also the congregation turned over the Parsonage to the Pastor and his wife for as long as they wished to live in it. A special service was held August 11th in honor of his anniversary and honoring him on his 30th year as our pastor. Rev. Otto Toelke, executive director of the Ohio District of the Lutheran Church -- Missouri Synod, delieverd the sermon and the Rev. E.H. Jobst of Hilliard, Ohio, and long time friend of the Pastor, served as liturgist. Walter Mees, superintendent of our Sunday School, announced his resignation after 62 years, serving as its leader for 53 years. William Hampp was chosen as the new superintendent. A closed circuit television set was installed in the parish hall. Pastor Pohl was hospitalized at Good Samaritan Hospital in December. Rev. Eugene Jobst of Columbus, Ohio, was in the pulpit. The Children's Christmas Service was held on December 22nd, with Walter Mees in charge. Rev. Eugene Kappeler, pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church at Newark, Ohio, conducted the services for Christmas Eve. Rev. Donald Tubesing, pastor at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, was the speaker for the New Year's Eve Service and Holy Communion was celebrated. Pastor Pohl laid down his Shepherd's Staff in Zanesville on December13, 1968, when he was stricken with a stroke at age 67. 1969Pastor Pohl became Pastor Emeritus after discussions with officers of the congregation and his personal doctors.Rev. Jobst served Holy Communion. Helen Porter was named associate organist and would play for at least one service each month. A guest minister in February was William Boys, who, with his wife, resided in Columbus. Rev. and Mrs. Boys were in our Nigerian field from August, 1966, until July, 1967. Rev. Eugene Kappeler of Newark, Ohio, was asked to be our interim pastor. Pastor Jobst continued his series of Lenten sermons. It was decided that members, as well as others using the church parking lot daily, should make a donation of $4 a month. Rev. Paul Stanko from Zion Lutheran Church of Columbus, Ohio, was a speaker. Gary Lieske, a teacher at Redeemer Lutheran School in Lancaster, taught the Confirmation class of 1969. There were 17 children in the class. Mary Danhauer resigned as primary teacher of our Saturday School. Karl D. Schmid was honored by the altar flowers from the Ruth Guild for more than 30 years as director of the church choir. After 25 years, the Men's Club had their last display at the Muskingum County Fair. A call list was received by Rev. Waldemar Neisch. A Call was extended to Rev. Leonard G. Stohs at St. James Lutheran Church in Cleveland, Ohio. A Call was extended to Rev. Wilbur Franzmeier of Hibbing, Minnesota. A Call was sent, in May, to Rev. Lyle Halvorson at Faith Lutheran Church in Avon, Ohio, to become pastor here, but he wished to reamin with his congregation in Avon. A Call was sent to the Rev. Arthur Ziegler of Cleveland, Ohio. A Call was sent to Rev. C.W. Baringer of Canton, Ohio to be our pastor. A Call was sent to Rev. Richard T. Hinz of Lutherville, Maryland. A Call was sent to Rev. Arnold Soeldner of St. Louis, Missouri. Finally a Call was sent to Rev. Larry Kudart of Zion Lutheran Church, Humboldt, Iowa, and he accpeted the Call. |
