1964Congratulations were given to Rev. Eugene Schmid of Grena, Louisiana, son of our congregation, who served Salem Lutheran for 45 years.Ethel Blankenbuehler, a teacher in Zanesville Public schools for 44 years, our Saturday School teacher for 28 years, and often taught Adult Bible Class in the Sunday School, died in May. This was the 20th consecutive year that our Men's Club sponsored a booth at the Muskingum County Fair. Congratulations went to Rolland Gaumer and his committee who were responsible for planning and erecting the booths. "The Silent Pledge" was conducted instead of the every member canvas. Pledges for 1965 were to be sent in by December 6. (This is the first time pledges were made in this manner.) A confirmation class of 25, the largest in our history was Confirmed. 1965In February, Pastor Pohl announced he would like to continue without a vicar and his wishes were honored.Financial records reported to date amount contributed for the 1957 parish hall and church expansion:
Received from estate of Ethel Blankenbuehler $22,500 in bonds. From Grace Maier on this Anniversary of Dedication a canceled $5,000 note. This brought our debt below $100,000. Crosses made from the old pulpit were sold by Walther Leaguers for $3. H.W. Wiemann was appointed vice-president to fill the vacancy by death of Rolland Gaumer. A cantata, "The Prince of Peace," was presented on a Wednesday in Advent. 1966In April, a celebration was held for teh 100th Anniversary of Trinity Church Building and the 9th Anniversary of teh Dedication of the new Chancel and Parish Hall. Former associate pastor, Rev. Herbert Krieger, spoke at the 100th Anniversary Banquet. Karl D. Schmid was master of ceremonies. The new altar, cross and candlesticks for the parish hall, built by Fred Long, Sr. were dedicated. The Ruth Guild and Ladies Aid paid for the cost of the material.Trustees installed a light in our church parking lot area in June. Rev. Eugene Schmid, Trinity's son, marked his 50th anniversary in the Holy Ministry in August. 1967The Church Library officially opened in February. Pat Heffman helped get the project underway.Treasurer, Karl D. Schmid, announced that our bank mortage had been paid off, but we still owed our members $64,796.75 in borrowed money. We celebrated the 450th Anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation in October. A new organ fund was started. The congregation participated in the Ebenezer Thankoffgering of the Synod. |
