1956Pastor Pohl suffered heart attack in January.Rev. John G. Magar of Good Shepherd Church, Akron, Ohio, was a guest minister in February. The church council assembled and advised that the pastor should be away from the pulpit for at least three months. It was recommended that a Call be made to Rev. Herbert Krieger, Huntington, W. Va., as associate pastor. Rev. Herbert Krieger accepted the Call. A service of Installation for Rev. Herbert J. Krieger as associate pastor was held. Rev. O.F. Stolzenburg preached and was installation officiant. Rev. Don W. Buelow of Chillicothe, Ohio, handled the liturgical portion of the service. The Installation was followed by a reception for the new pastor at the Hotel Rogge. The Lutheran Hour chorus was here with 21 students on tour. Pews were moved and set up in the new parish hall for the first worship service to he held there. Pastor Pohl was hospitalized after a sudden illness. 1957On The Lutheran Witness Sunday, Dr. L. Blankenbuehler, editor, was guest speaker. The congregation had a picture taken, after the service, in front of the church and the 75th anniversary of the Witness was observed.The congregation rented a house at 638 Grove Ave. as a residence for Pastor Krieger and paid rent of $75. Pastor Krieger paid the utilities. Pastor Krieger and Caroline Ehlers were married in Emporium, Penn. The purchase of a Hammond Electric Organ was made for the Parish Hall from funds given by David Schmid as a memorial. The church and parish hall were dedicated on March 24, 1957. The Sunday Times Signal covered the event, with many photos. A Service of Praise was held and a reception followed in the parish hall. Anna Weber, widow of the late C.H. Weber, was an honored guest at the dedication and services. Attendeance at the two services on Dedication Sunday totaled 1,364. Dr. John Behnken, President of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, delivered the sermon and the Lutheran Layman's Convention of the Central Ohio District met here. An announcement was made that men were needed to help develop the Madinger Memorial Project, a gift from the William Dunzweiler family. The church council voted to charge $25 for wedding receptions held on the first floor of the parish hall and $15 for the basement. The congregation accepted an offer of Leota and Oscar Wells to exchange property at 110 S. 7th St. and give $3,000 in addition for property at 106 S. 7th St. Trustees were authorized to negotiate the transaction. A Christmas Candlelight Service was held at 6:30am on December 25th. (This was a tradition for many years, but 1957 was the last year.) 1958The church council recommended that Trinity honor Walter Mees for his faithful service to the church and sunday school.Walter Mees Day was observed February 9th. A sermon was given by Rev. Otto Stolzenburg of Zion Lutheran Church, Columbus, a long time close friend of Mr. Mees. A brochure was prepared with photos honoring Mr. Mees. Eleanor (Sissie) Anderson Bowman won an essay contest with a poem about "Why I Like Mr. Mees." Pastor Pohl reported a burglary at the Church, resulting in the theft of the motion picture projector and sound equipment and its subsequent pawning to the Levison establishment on lower Main St. An insurance adjuster completed an investigation. The church council met to consider a Call to Rev. Krieger from Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church of Dayton, Ohio. Resolution granting him a peacefule dismissal was unanimously, but reluctantly given. Crosses made from wood from the old pulpit were for sale. Pauline Schmid Huffman was hired as hired as church secretary. On the 35th Anniversary of Pastor Pohl's Ordination, October 19th, guest minister Rev. Stolzenburg's text was Acts 28:15, "Thank God and Take Courage." Written registration for Holy Communion was initiated and personal registration with the pastor was discontinued. |
