1939The Valporaiso University Choir gave a concert at Zanesville High School (Lash High) and members of the choir were guests of our congregation.A newly organized Men's Club, social in nature, met in February. ![]() A Father-Son Banquet was sponsored by the Men's Club. Cost of the tickets was 35 cents. Jennie Leibrock and Mildred Capaul were in charge of an altar flower committee for the Ruth Guild. The Walther League collected sales stamps. For every $100 of canceled stamps, the League would receive $3. Two pews were added to the back of the church for use by the church officers during services. 1940It was decided at the January Voter's Assembly that one German sermon would be given the first Sunday of each month. There would be no evening services, with the exception of Lent, Advent, and for Pastoral Conference.The Ladies Aid sponsored a sauerkraut supper at 35 cents per ticket. We ordered 400 new hymnals because there were many complaints about the poor condition of the old hymnals and eh fact there weren't enough to go around. Karl D. Schmid, in charge of all vocal music, organized a junior choir. Louise Greiner directed the Walther League in a play called "One Delirious Night." It was presented in the parish hall and tickets cost 25 cents for adults and 15 cents for children. The annual church and Sunday School picnic was held at Rehl's picnic grounds on the West Pike. The Men's Club hosted a group from Zion Lutheran Church in Akron. A ball game was held at the Athletic Field and a picnic took place at Moore's Camp. Walter Bischoff was in charge. The Ladies Aid sponsored an October bazaar with Rose Reusch, president, in charge. Rev. W.F. Docter from Lancaster spoke at the second annual Father-Son Banquet in November. The Ladies Aid was saving Camay soap flakes box tops and Crisco labels. The Ruth Guild collected tax stamps. |
