1929-1938

1929

We experienced a deficit of $119.62. (There was an annual deficit until 1938.)

1930

A contract for radio time over Station WALR (a forerunner of WHIZ) was signed. This contract was for one broadcast each week for 13 weeks. It was to begin September 7, 1930, between the hours of 10:15am and 11:15 am. The total cost of the series was $325 and was paid for by pledges from members of the congregation. (We have a listing of the subscribers in our archives.)

*Notes of Interest
We have copies of fire and windstorm insurance policies for the church and parsonage, as well as, other property owned. The church, parsonage, and school building were insured for $5,500.

1936

The Lutheran Hour Celebration, "Bringing Christ to the Nations," was held at Zanesville High School (Lash High) and Dr. Walter A. Maier of St. Louis, Missouri, presented an address on "Reformation or Revolution."

1937

Vicar Carl Biar served our congregation until we installed a new pastor.

1938

There was a surplus of $1 in the current expense account. On January 2, 1938, a new pastor, Rev. Walter Pohl, was installed at 7:15pm. The first issue of the Sunday Bulletin, Trinity Messenger, edited by Rev. Walter Pohl, was published.

The Voters Assembly resolved to pray the Lord's Prayer earlier in the service and exclude it at the close of the service so the pastor would have time to walk to the front door to greet people as they left teh church. A slent prayer was substituted, following hte Doxology. Before this practice was instituted, the Lord's Prayer closed the service and the congregation wouild leave church while the pastor was still standing at the chancel.

Seminary student Carl Biar preached at a German service in January. It was asked that, if possible, communicants would make announcement for Communion on the preceding Thursday. The church choir presented an Easter Cantata.

Herman Klein, a son of the congregation, spoke on his work as a missionary in China.

Revs. Eugene and Walter Schmid, sons of the congregation, vacationed in Zanesville in August.

A microphone was installed in the church and the service was to be broadcast in the school room in the parish hall.

A Sauerkraut supper was held from 4:30 to 7pm on November 9, 1938. Tickets were sold for 35 cents and Rose Reusch was in charge.
