1894-1901

1894

At the June council meeting, Pastor Wefel reported that the money available for the pastor and two teachers was $1,708. Trustees related that the bill for Harvey Street brick laying was $154.40.

1897

Pastor Wefel left to become the minister for one of the largest Lutheran churches in Cleveland. Dr. John Rimbach became the new pastor.

The custodian, Mr. Mautz, asked for a raise in salary. He felt that the existing wage of $12.50 per month was not enough for all the work he did in the church and school.

1898

The church council decided to discontinue the school after the completion of that school year because it was impossible to raise the needed money without creating a large deficit. Nevertheless, the school did not close until 1905.

Natural gas was installed in the church and parsonage and the church tower underwent repairs.

The teacher, William Riehl, was given a good recommendation when he resigned because he had given the school fine service.

1899

The decision to close the school was again made at an April meeting. The upstairs classroom was offered to people who wished to receive was offered to people who wished to receive private religious teaching.

It was decided to hire teacher Lange as organist at a yearly salary of $100. He would be required to play the organ at all religious services, including evening and funeral services.

Mr. Mautz, the custodian was to be paid $20 a year for pumping the organ at all occasions when the organ was played.

1900

Pastor Rimbach left and Rev. Herman Prange accepted the Call.

At the September meeting of the council, it was decided to let all ages use the lower floor of the school house for amusements, as long as there was no gambling. Additionally, a decision was made to begin using the English liturgy at English services on a trial basis.

1901

Mr. Mautz resigned from his job as custodian and Mr. and Mrs. William (Gertrude) Bischoff took over the work at the same pay.

It was announced, at the April meeting, that a lady attending funeral services in the church should wear a mourning veil.

The church council decided to elect a special school board to control the activities of the church school.
